Questions about Advice, information and support
Do I need a background in social care or counselling?
No. Organisations look for people who listen without judging and stick to the boundaries of the role. Anything specialist is covered in their own training.
What training will I get?
Expect an induction, role-specific training and a named contact you can bring questions to. Some roles also run refresher sessions through the year.
What if a conversation upsets me?
You should never be left to carry it alone. Support lines and visiting services have supervision or a debrief arrangement, and you can ask about it before you sign up.
Is it always face to face?
No. Some roles are entirely by phone from home, some are visits in the community, and a few are group sessions in a local venue.
