Absolutely not. Volunteering is free, and any required training or Garda Vetting is covered by the organisation.

What if I sign up and then don't like the role?

That is completely fine. Volunteering is not a contract. Talk to us and we will help you find a better fit.

Will my employer be supportive?

Many employers are supportive of volunteering, especially once the time commitment is clear. We can help you explain what is involved.

Is volunteering insured? What if something goes wrong?

Registered organisations should have insurance and clear procedures. Ask your coordinator before you start and we can help clarify anything that feels unclear.

Can I volunteer if I don't drive / am under 18 / don't speak fluent English?

Yes, there are still options. Some roles have requirements, but many are flexible around transport, age and language confidence.

IS IT FOR ME?

Is volunteering for me?

Almost certainly. People volunteer with different skills, schedules and confidence levels — there is no single volunteer type.

You don't need any. Most volunteering roles come with full training. We match you based on interest, not qualifications.

That's fine. We have roles that fit around work, family, and life. Even a few hours a month makes a real difference.

Many of our volunteers felt the same. Roles range from behind-the-scenes admin to one-to-one companionship — there's a fit for every personality.

Your life experience is exactly what is needed. Many of our most valued volunteers came to it later in life.

Apply for a role first. Your volunteer coordinator will confirm whether vetting is needed.

We send you the e-vetting form. It takes about 10 minutes and you'll need ID.

Wait 2–4 weeks while the Garda National Vetting Bureau processes the application.

Start volunteering once it is cleared. Your coordinator confirms the next step.
